CELEBRATED JAZZ BAND, PIECES OF A DREAM, PERFORMS TO SUPPORT YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE
Proceeds to benefit The Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education (FAME)

Event Date: Saturday, April 7, 2007 ● 7pm

The internationally seasoned jazz band, Pieces of a Dream, will grace the stage of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (University of Maryland, College Park, MD) on Saturday, April 7 at 7 pm. Pieces of a Dream, a group that formed in Philadelphia 30 years ago, will display its wide range of musical genres of jazz, R&B, and funk. Led by keyboardist James Lloyd and drummer Curtis Harmon, the group recently released their latest album “Pillow Talk.” Everyone is invited to attend this special concert performance in which proceeds raised will benefit The Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education (FAME). Tickets prices for the general public are $35 and $45; students pay $20 for all seats.

FAME, a nonprofit, was conceptualized to ensure the financial solidarity for student achievers who have limited access to programs that will foster their musical and educational maturity. FAME’s mission is to positively affect the lives of children, teens, and young adults who aspire to make both music and educational achievement a lifelong journey.

In addition to exposing the community at large to a wide variety of artistic and cultural offerings, FAME strives to alleviate the financial burdens that many young people face today. This concert will serve as one mode to help realize FAME’s scholarship objectives.

The Richard Payne Trio, also locally and internationally revered, will make a special guest appearance at this fundraising concert.  A special presentation will be made by figurative artist Ralph Irby.  Senator Douglas J. J. Peters and Council Member Samuel H. Dean serve as co-chairs for this event.

This special fundraising event is sponsored by The Gazette--The Star, The Perfect Plan of Greater Washington, and Maryland National Capital Park & Planning.
