Statement of Purpose
The Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education, Inc. (FAME) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation based in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. FAME was founded in 2004 on the principal that all children, teens, and young adults, regardless of social and economic need, should have access to quality music and music education as part of their lifelong journey to adulthood. And if given the tools, the power of music which is a key factor to a well rounded character, will produce a new generation of leaders for our community and for our nation. Our mission is: “We believe that the arts and in particular music, to be of primary importance to the survival of our civilization, the health of our local community, and to the quality of life of each young person we can reach”.
Belief Statement
We work to accomplish our mission by placing a high value on:
- Providing excellent music education
- Building cultural awareness
- Offering life skills through the arts
- Encouraging and nurturing creativity and appreciation in all areas of musicianship
- Enhancing lives though quality musical experiences
- Providing a safe haven and atmosphere for all students
- Inspiring young minds of today to become leaders of tomorrow
FAME does this through scholarships and grants, seminars & workshops, making music education and performance experiences possible for all young people regardless of race and ethnicity, gender, creed, class or economic situation. Recognizing music transcends well beyond just sound alone, FAME also embraces the arts by supporting Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts and the Humanities.
We believe that music is not just entertainment; not just a luxury; not just a pleasant pastime; not just momentary gratification and not just an activity for the elite. The experience of music and our participation in music allows us to be a part of the universal creative process, opens our hearts and minds, awakens feelings and brings delight and joy.
